Show more Collapse

A comprehensive refit of Jester, a 68.8-metre expedition yacht built in 1972. Over 23 months at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, the hull, engineering systems, interiors and outdoor decks were renewed. Interior design by RWD. The yacht left the yard in May 2023.

The galleries show genuine photographs of the deck and saloon before and after the refit. The posts cover the work, refurbished cabins and preparations for expedition cruising.

Refit in dry dock: steelwork and repainting

Jester is pictured in dry dock at Pendennis during the refit. The project included replacing 130 tonnes of steel in the hull, main deck and double-bottom tanks. The hull surface was then faired, followed by a complete repaint of the topsides and superstructure.

Saloon before and after: light wood and nautical accents

Compare the saloon before and after its transformation. Dark wood finishes and the previous furniture gave way to lighter surfaces, freestanding chairs and sofas, natural textures and blue accents. The interior feels brighter and closer to a relaxed beach house. Move the divider to explore the changes.

Deck before and after: from spa pool to cinema under the stars

The old spa pool was removed to make room for different ways to enjoy the deck. The space can now be used for exercise, social gatherings or outdoor cinema. The post-refit photograph shows the evening setup with a screen, soft seating and ambient lighting. Use the slider to compare the two versions.

Engine room and bridge after the upgrade

The refit also renewed Jester’s technical systems. The original engines and generators were overhauled, and the generator exhaust system, electrical wiring and domestic services were upgraded. New ventilation, air conditioning and water-mist fire suppression systems were installed. The photographs show the refurbished engine room and bridge.

Refurbished guest cabins and bathroom

The guest accommodation received a new interior by RWD. These post-refit photographs show the VIP cabin, its bathroom and a guest cabin. Light wood, soft lighting and textiles create a calm setting, with bright cushions adding colour. Timber details and coordinated finishes tie the spaces together.

The result: Jester returns to expedition cruising

In May 2023, the yacht left Falmouth following her refit. Jester later travelled to Antarctica. The photographs show her refreshed exterior and her voyage among the ice. This concludes our demo overview, from dry dock and redesigned interiors to a return to long-distance cruising.
